Trained by the Jesuits in Manresa House, Dublin and with an MA in Pastoral theology and a Certificate in Counselling from QUB, Breige has worked in spiritual direction and adult faith development for over fifteen years. She is based in Belfast, where she recently helped establish well.com, a Christian Centre for Psychological and Spiritual wellbeing, with Rev Alan Lorimer, a Methodist minister and CBT therapist. She also offers one-to-one sessions, group programmes and retreats for adult Christians in various locations in UK/Ireland. She is committed to her ongoing professional development and is supervised according to BACP standards.
Breige works also with clergy across the denominations, providing one to one spiritual direction and group support for prayer, ministry and self-care. She has delivered clergy periods of reflection and retreat, as well as being involved in formation for ministry and ordination. Her work with a range of clergy and lay people gives her a sensitivity to the ups and downs of life in parish, congregation and community and she is popular with those in ministry seeking a down to earth realistic way of living and working in love with Christ.
Breige is author of two books, The Nearness of God: Rediscovering God’s Love and Longing (Shanway Press 2011) and Whole Parish Catechesis: Faith development for the Faint Hearted (Columba Press, 2005). Her research into the patterns of growth in relationship with God is used internationally in the training of spiritual directors. Breige is currently co-facilitating ‘STEPS...in spiritual direction’ an interdenominational (Ignatian) spiritual direction training programme, delivered in partnership with Edgehill Theological College, Belfast.
Breige is married and has two daughters.
